54khz with 9" HF coil first outing thumbs up

Post by frogeye »

Put the 9" HF coil on and tested it at 54khz in the field ::g ::g

Runs stable and gave a good clear signal on smaller fragments. They were also easy to pinpoint with the coil and locate. Fragments that would be a bit iffy with the 11" coil.
It also located a large lump of iron about 12" down part of a tractor tow hitch it pinpointed it well , it was soon out of the hole and in the hedge :))

I bought the coil to recheck some pasture areas where good finds have come out.

Should be great for small silver coins [:)

Ever since reading about the Fisher Goldbug 2 (72kHz) and what it would find (over on Tom Dankowski's Forum) I was always curious about what they would do on UK farmland. My hunch was that they would see the shotgun pellets too readily, and would be too much trouble. Then more recently the Racer Gold (56kHz) came out, with apparently similar performance. But it's just too much money to invest in a niche machine, for me. I look forwards to hearing what you, and others, make of such high-frequency detecting.

Just a pity they didn't bring out an 11" HF coil. The 9" coil never feels like its covering enough ground.
But with some slow and carful searching it should turn up some good finds ::g

Have you looked at the frequency shifts on the HF coil, 7 now with a greater range.

Only tried it out for an hour so far will be trying it on some pasture areas next and try some different settings ::g ::g

Not sure how to get the range of 7 settings ? I can only get the 3 preset ones. Any tips how to get the others would be great ::g ::g Will have another look at the control.

The HF coil does seem interesting but not sure if its a everyday use freq, what i can see it being deadly for is use on dry beaches on small jewellery, like 'fusion' has mentioned the Fisher Goldbug 2 is the main one that i have been interested in getting and solely just for dry sand micro jewellery use but saying that a TDI Pro PI with a small coil would basically do the same but more so as its ability to be used on wet sand as well.

Will be interesting in what folks would use the HF Deus coil for,as it was originally aimed at nugget hunting but could have some niche use here in the UK as well.
Equinox 6'',11'' and 15'' coils.
Deus 2 9'' coil.
Minelab GPX 14'' and 18'' Coiltek coils.
Fisher TW-5 twin box.
Nexus MP 13'' coil.
Nexus SE dual 9'' coil.
Whites TDI Pro 20'' coil.

Scroll down to frequency then press expert, this takes you into frequency shift.

Thanks Bob I will give that a try ::g

Went back to a paddock area that I have been over with a 9" & 11" coil on 3.2 . Tried the HF coil flat out on basic one . There was to many little blips so dropped the kHz down to mid position and it settled down . Tested it for an hour in that time I had three signals dug down 14" each time but failed to find a metal object :-O Maybe the object was another couple of inchs down ?? I just don't know it is possible suppose . The trouble is it takes time to dig down to that depth on very compacted soil and filling in the hole is a pain . Walking back to the car across the field the HF coil was great at picking out targets through the loose air filled soil.

The Garrett pro pointer was a pain the last thing you need is a propointer that gives out false signals when your digging holes 14" time for a Mi6 pointer I think :D

These coils look interesting, I'm hanging back to see what the elliptical coil is like. See both together last week courtesy of Gary, he says the there is a bit of difference in the depth between the two, I'm more interested in the unmasking capability of the elliptical one.
