new to detecting

hi all hope someone out there can help me i have been advised to join this site and am just hopeing some one from the herts beds bucks area can take me out and advise me on detecting and show me the ropes. i have not yet purchased a detector and do not wish to rush in to it before learning more about it thanks

Have u tryied looking into if there are any clubs local to you and try and email one of the committee members to see if you are welcome to one of there meetings. Metal detecting can b a very funny hobbie with land permissions and getting out with anyone etc. I woz working with a guy who detected and have known for 25 yrs. 18 yrs ago i worked with him for about 6 weeks in one hit. He d bring in the mags and detect books. At the time there woz motion and non motion detectors. Me being me i woz hoooooked. Went miles on the saturday. Bought one. Monday at work " mick mick ive got one can i go detecting with you. NO. It then sat in the roof for about 10 yrs till a guy moved in to the culdsac where i live who detects went out once with him thought o thats it again for another 10 yrs but have been out regularly since with him or on rallys. Stick with it someone will help you out !!! Something will turn up. Good luck.
