Ebinger detector

Post by tommy78 »

Hi all

I've been looking for an all round md that could be used on both land and wet sand but after some advice on here had given that up as a bad idea (for my budget anyway) then after chatting to an ex army bomb disposel guy in the pub this evening he told me about the ebinger he said they used it to find mine's in Afganistan on all sorts of terrain wet and dry sand under water marshes soil and he said it's simple to use 1 control and then the diferent tones tell you what you've found he recons he'd quite often pull out coins and jewelry while testing ( not on a minefield ) an recons I should be able to get one for my budget and gave me a number to get one
now is he right is this machine really that good or will it just find me an unexploded bomb

can't answer your question but have seen a few on the bay recently, would be interesting to try one out and if they are crap that would give us an idea of how much the government think of our lads out there, christ they even gave them metal detectors to find plastic mines at one stage I believe

yeah that was these! apperently they will pick up the wire used inside the mine? according to the research i've done anyway they seem promising but may be a little tricky for my first detector

Ebinger have several patents on search coil designs and the detectors have good 'pedigree'. I imagine they must also be well-constructed and reliable for their intended application. They are probably heavy though, and may not have the adjustability and controls you would want for relic/coin hunting.
Fulltimer: Regarding finding plastic mines, I understand the un- mineralised void in the ground is the key to finding them.

Do you think its correct that they can go as deep as 2 feet

as daft as it sounds I'm not that fussed about finding coins and relics at first an old gate would impress me but the guy I spoke to said that the tones are quite different and can easily tell the differences he said because the mines are made from lots of different matterials copper brass tin iron aluminium you need to be able to find it all, for the price second hand i'm very very tempted and it will also work underwater not that i intend on getting wet but i do own a small stream so would be another place to go

still quite confused it seems any other decent detector would cost well in excess of £100 and as its my first dont really want to spend to much but yet i do want to be able to go on the beach
