Metal Detector for North East beaches

Hi All,

I am about to buy my first detector and will be mainly using it on local beaches at Sunderland and East Durham. Having looked at various threads on the forum and considering my budget (£200-£300), I have whittled this down to either a Garret Ace 250 or the CScope CS4PI.

Has anyone experience of using either these on North East beaches and also, if they are any good? Any advice gratefully received.

The Ace250 is a great machine and IMHO fantastic value (like many on here I started with one, and still use it some times).
It copes well with the beaches in the South West (North Devon / Somerset) but these are "detector friendly". However, I understand that it is not as good on some beaches with higher minerlaisation (I have a vague idea that I read the beaches in the NE are highly mineralised). If you are just planning to detect the dry sand at the top of the beach then it would be great but if you want to detect the wet sand it might be an issue.

I have not used the CS4PI but it has a good reputation as a beach machine, and when I looked at it some time back surprised me how cheap it was. Like the Garrett again a good manufacturer. What a lot would consider its downside is that being a PI machine it does not have descrimination so you will dig a lot of rubbish.

If you also want to detect inland here the Ace 250 would have a very strong advantage. As the CS4PI is purely a beach machine.

Spend a little more and buy a Minelab Safari or Etrac. Get a FBS machine.
My Safari works great on land or wet sand.

Hi and welcome to the Forum. I started with the ACE250 and must admit it was a wee bit noisy on the wet sand but ok on the dry. Greetings from East Riding.
