Wales Beach Detecting - Advice please

Post by Ladyluck »

Hello there,

I moved from Devon to Telford 18 months ago. I was aware of the Crown Foreshore Permit back then and the beaches I was allowed to detect on. However, Wales is now my nearest coastline 8-|

Can anyone tell me the rules for detecting on Welsh beaches please? From my understanding nobody needs a permit anymore? I did have a read of the Crown Foreshore web page.

Thankyou so much.

That's my understanding of it. It seems to have changed in the last couple of years so that you no longer need a permit to detect on the foreshore of Crown Estate beaches between the high and low water marks. Bear in mind though that some beaches are privately owned and some are controlled by local authorities. It may be best to check with the local council what the position is.

Wessexlad is spot on with his reply, the "rules" are exactly the same as for England.

Masses of beaches in Wales are Crown Estate so plenty of choice, if you were unsure of which the map , and very sensible T&Cs, can be found here http://www.thecrownestate.co.uk/rural-a ... detecting/

None exactly on your doorstep but the beaches in both North Wales and Cardigan Bay are about 2 hours so certainly "doable" and especially cross country to Cardigan Bay is a lovely scenic run.

I have tried detecting on Borth beach which according to the crown estates foreshore map is fine (didn't have any luck with my Simplex however as the sand was very wet and I wasn't sure on the settings front!).
