My first milled gold coin just a shame with its condition

Post by Ringtop-grafter »

Hello and hope everyone is well and getting out.

I was out for 3 hours yesterday on a recently drilled field, crops at short grass height, amongst the usual half a dozen worn coppers back to George III a squashed silver thimble and a nice watch winder I found my first gold milled coin after 3 years and 4 months of trying. A Victorian half sovereign and such a shame with the condition. My guess after finding a lot of furniture trash in the area it was left in a piece of furniture that was getting burnt back in the day.

Gave a medium-low solid two way tone from all angles with a bit of iron grunt in the background reading 27-29 on the Vdu, tight circle bang on and half way none ferrous line and a solid 27 flat out of the hole, 4 inch deep on dry ground with my Manticore, if this helps a bit with any members like myself learning this nuts machine [88/]

Still 100% more gold coin than I've ever found. I understand re the condition but still counts and very welcome. [81/]

I think your right re the fire theory. Around 30 years ago when still beach detecting there was an area showing signs of a bonfire and found around 6 rings, coins and silver spoon amongst it all

Cracking find I would`nt be too worried about the damage. Beauty of it is you can keep it as it is, try and get it sorted out to look a 100% or cash it and have an amazing night out with the Mrs. You`ve got gold that`s it!!. Win, win.......... [81/]

Wow!! Absolutely amazing mate, so happy for you, what an incredible find, well done 👏👏👏 Just think of the damage as another piece of the coins history, it’s still a gold coin and that’s amazing! Would have loved to have seen your gold dance 🕺 I’ll message you tomorrow mate 😊 Well done 👏 😁
