Yes they're Exerzier-Patrone S, either left over from an exercise or perhaps loaded into an MG belt to cut down on the rate of fire.Chopper wrote: Some good news though... the fluted rounds are not American! They're German! Manufactured by the Königliches Munitionsfabrik, in Spandau!![]()
It's a year earlier than yours, but other than that, it's exactly the same! Well done mate! B-)

I've heard of blanks being used to launch grenades from rifles. The launching power comes from the propellant. You clearly don't want to be firing a bullet into the backend of the grenade hence the blank. This may have been more of a WW I thing but I'm no expert.....
Looking for stuff.....mainly in fields.......

Indeed, but not using this one piece type of blank round. For grenade launcher the Germans used 7.92mm with crimped end.Verulamium wrote:I've heard of blanks being used to launch grenades from rifles. The launching power comes from the propellant. blanks are sometimes used to fire rifle grenades!, so that might explain them being on a battlefield? , and you can get a thing called bullet-through- grenade, which allows live ammo to launch rifle grenades, but this is fairly modern
