Ordanance ID help please

Post by dannieboyuk »

Hi,

I found some ordnance on Beachy Head on Sunday that I would like to be able to ID, can any one help me or point me in the right direction.
I can not upload the pictures to the site for some reason? I have cropped them but they won’t up load. Would any one mind PMing me as to how I can do this or drop me there email so I can send them the pic’s for ID assistance?

Many thanks

Danny :D

My knowledge of heavy ordnance isn't great, but I'd say it's a 25 pounder projectile.

It'll either be British or American (dependent on the caliber)

Great stuff, thanks for all your hard work and infromation. Are there any websites or books for this type of ID regarding WW2 Ordanance?

Was Bachy Head a testing area? why would it be there?

Hi Danny. Try the following ordnance forum mate. They're experts with this kind of thing.

It could be worth speaking to some elder members of the community, and see what they remember. The chances are, Beachy Head would have been heavilly fortified during the early days of the war, as the German planned Operation Sealion - the Invasion of Britain! In the latter years (after the threat of invasion subsided), the area may well have been used as a firing range.
