part of shell?

Hi all,one of my finds from sat,pasture hillside 6 inches deep.you have id some other bits for me this is from the same permission.

I have a picture of a complete 'shell fuse bolt' but I can't get it in my post :( Perhaps someone can tell how it works 8-}

that's part of a number 199 pyrotechnic time fuse

Hi guys,thank you for the id. how on earth do you know all this stuff?Hard enough to id something when its in one piece. When its blown to bits,it just baffles the hell out of me.
What would this have been used for and of what age would it be?

well when you look in to this stuff and research it you can point out almost any fuse bit and say what its from

the 199 were used on 3.7 inch AA shells and 4.5 inch AA shells possibly even 3 inch AA guns
and it would be from around

1938 to 1945

hi william thanks for the reply.That makes sense, as you have recently id another item which was a drive band from a 3.7 inch AA shell from the same site, maybe even same shell !!!!!

it could be from the same shell but they fired so many its impossible to tell

Hi again,if I made no mistakes than the following link shows WW2 soldiers holding 3.7 inch AA shells sometime 1940.

these 2 posts wil help you mate

the bit you found is the timer ,i believe it sets the time in seconds for how long it wait to detonate.
