Hi William, I didn't realise that cannon balls had fuses! :-O

An interesting story burgman; I hear tell that there are millions of English and German land mines left in North Africa :( Do you suppose we could help them to uncover them all? ;)

well not all cannon balls had fuses some contained lead ball and had a boxer time fuse on them but this particular one was designed to go through the target then the fuse would burn out then the cannon ball would explode

It ain't so bad if you know what you're digging and are sensible. Golden rule is, if you can't be 100% positive it's inert/safe, leave it alone. I have often said that no relic is worth a finger, hand, arm, foot, leg or life.

Hi William, I have just read about an American who took home a 9" 7.5lb Civil War cannon ball and started working on it with some sort of electric hand-tool. The darn thing blew up and killed him! :(
