Can you tell the caliber from the numbers?
The cartridge is indeed a US .30 calibre of 1929. During the first few years of WWII numbers of .30 calibre weapons and ammunition were shipped from the US and issued to the Home Guard (Dads Army) as a shortage of weapons meant that the available .303 weapons were being issued to the regulars. These were later replaced with new .303 weapons as they became available.
It's all the Headless Hunters fault !!

See :) you don't need me at all now :)

30cal, Frankford Arsenal, 1929. Reason for the age is stockpiling of ammo prior to the outbreak of war. As for whether its from homeguard or regular army you will never know. The homeguard did indeed use Lee-Enfields converted to 30 cal, but could of easily been a garand rifle, BAR or Browning mg.

Nice little find :)
