Yikes looks a bit dangerous.
The guy Who posted to YouTube said there are warning signs about unexploded ammo so it sounds like they won't be in a rush to clean up.
And I didn't notice anyone else on that beach. They really should put that place off limits to the public.

I can just picture RRPG loading up the car right now. =))

Looks like they were buried and the sea has eroded the land they were in. Seem to be all the same type so maybe an old practice range?

I remember the A10's using that area while sat on Honrsea beach when the kids were little, you never forget that sound. " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My mother lives just inland from Hornsea and they flew in past her house so low you could wave to the pilots.

You would never catch me anywhere near that area ;;z

They did look a bit like the practice bombs that are dropped by A10s, thats what i thought when i first saw it, how do i know?
I was on anti aircraft missiles when i was in the army and we used a couple of the ranges on The Wash to practice tracking aircraft with the missile systems, amongst others, at the time A10s were there the most. When a sortie had finished the RAF guys would go out on a tractor and pick up the practice (Flash and Smoke)bombs and bring them back to the range office and then dissmantle the bombs with club hammers (really :)) ). These bombs were the same sort of shape as the ones in the video and were painted light blue for practice. I AM NOT SAYING THESE ARE DEFINITELY PRACTICE BOMBS, but they do look similar. :D :D :D ::g

You guys.............. :D :D :D

I've known about this place for quite some time. Reason I have never been are twofold. Firstly, not much, if any of the stuff is WW2. Secondly, it is still covered by an active bye-law meaning that removal of ANY item however small is theft from the MoD and leaves you liable for heavy fines and even imprisonment.

As for the stuff seen, most of it is practice stuff. This makes it sound harmless but it isn't ! Even practice stuff had a small charge in it so the spotters could see where the shells/bombs were hitting.

A great video and a nice place to visit, but not somewhere to go to add anything to a collection so no extension to the war room needed.........

......but the new gunnery range I've just found (all the mortar fins I posted), could involve extending the room !!!!

Cheers

Hi there, I see a dog walker has reported finding unexploded bombs on the beach at Mappleton which is also where the Cowden bombing range was. These were found as a result of a 'recent landslide' . I guess this must have been the dog walkers first time on the beach as these bombs have been there for at least a couple of years. :)
