A little mystery.

Post by Christoph1945 »

I spend rather a lot of time down at Talacre and often run the CS4PI over the beach there. During my sesions on the Talacre sands; I turn up plenty of scrap and WWII projectiles. .303's, .30's, 50 cals, and 22mm are often amongst my finds. The .303 and .30's turn up in their hundreds; if not thousands.

A couple of months ago I decided to move along the coast and try my hand at Kinmel Bay. I spent a morning detecting the sands just behind the ASDA shopping complex and turned up a couple of bob in modern decimal, a fist full of broken glass, a wee bit of scrap, and one really nasty sharp. It was only later, when I sifted through the scrap, that I noticed that I had picked up a lead projectile.

I suppose that one of you chaps will, perhaps, be able to id the said item but the greater puzzle for me is " where did it come from and how did it get there? "

I went to Kinmel bay a couple of weeks ago loads of rubbish as you said I found it a bit intimidating with the youths on the beach lighting fires, then I read the notices in the car park about the anti-social behavior in the area my wife said she won't go there again .The bullet looks like the one I found on pasture further inland, 11 mm metal jacket but yours looks like lead .If you read my post under this ordnance section you will see photo it's a few days ago .

Hi there,

up untill now, I have avoided any problems with yobs by detecting early in the day; sometimes just after dawn. I know that you have detected the beach at Talacre; have you ever found anything of interest there? By taking notice of the movements of the projectiles and the shrapnel; I have slowly started to find items of interest and am hoping to make some good discoveries there.

I have had occasion to chat with other detectorists at Talacre and was wondering if some of us could arrange to meet for a coffee and share oure Talacre detecting experiences.

I have recovered loads of scrap, sharps, broken glass, and WWII projectiles there. Dave, a chap from our caravan site, even found a live grenade in the dunes but that is a long story. Although I have turned up a few quid in modern decimal and plenty of rotting copper clads; I have also found a George III penny, a George VI sixpence, an Elizabeth II sixpence, an old 10p, and an old ship halfpenny. Not treasure, I know, but each find acted as a clue to the tidal movements of the Talacre sands.

I will probably be at Talacre one day next week but haven't decided which day yet!

Not actually detected at Talacre yet I tend to go down the coast towards Llandudno most of the time I find big open beaches a bit daunting to search .My wife keeps saying why don't we take a trip to talacre so may try it one day ,we are based in Denbigh when we are not at home but site closes in 6 weeks so that's the end of welsh beach detecting for another year .
