Bullet or not.....?

Post by sampsan »

Hi,

Found this on a beach, sorry for the pics just from my mobile but may help.

Is a hollow (and empty) bullet shaped object, lead'ish with what looks like 'rifling' marks, at the blunt end is a copper type ring that is loose and this is then embedded in something unknown as is covered in black beach debris.

Would love people views.

Thanks in advance

Looks like a 20mm AP cannon shell to me. The copper ring is the drive band.......

It is a 20mm projectile and, luckily for you, appears to be armour piercing. However, it may not be and could be a base fuzed high explosive shell. Whichever it is, HE or AP, you really should not have taken it away with you. Remember, if you can't be 100% sure that what you're digging is inert/safe, LEAVE IT ALONE !

If it is/was HE, this will quite happily remove your hand.

Thanks, understand that and the risks.

Was well aware of the potential and would not have touched if was not fully hollow and could see inside to the very tip of the pointy end.

But you are right, caution first.
