personally, not being the brave sort anyway, if I thought there was a good probability that I was going to dig this sort of find then I would stay well away.
Only personal thought B-)

ive found many blanks (unfired), bullets and empty cartridges.. my local beach is next to a military firing range!

should carry a mobile fone with you anyhow too incase something happens.. what if you break an ankle or something.. can easily been done!

as for finding anything iffy Id ring the authorities if it was an unexploded device.. bullets however just keep em or take em to a police station..

unexploded bombs i have no knowledge of but i do have a extensive knowledge of amunition as i am in possesion of my own guns. my advice to you or anyone else whom comes along live ammo is simple, as a hard and fast rule if you find live ammo it will be safe to handle dont try to dismantle it to make it safe just leave it but be aware unless you are in possesion of a firearms or shotgun certificate which directly relates to the type of caliber of amunition you found buy keeping it you will be comiting a firarms offence, if you want to get rid of what you have found all you have to do is hand it in to your local police station and there will be no reprocutions at all as for empty cases dont worrie you can own a shed full of these as there and no one will bat an eye lid

As a serving member of the RAF I would suggest what we are taught and use the 4 "C's".

CONFIRM that you have a suspect device - this might sound strange but unexploded ordnance should be pretty clear what it is. Phone the authorities (the police are as good as any)

CLEAR the area (200m should be the minimum). Easier said that done, but it's a guideline.

CORDON the area. Use passers by or if you've phoned the police then they will take over

CONTROL the cordon - again, the police or Bomb Disposal will take over at some point.

This may all sound easier said than done but at least you are making an effort. If you can at least warn people then they are unlikely to go anywhere near what you've found and like you say, it's better than just ignoring it.

I found 3 different ones yesterday (all blanks)

1 unfired 2 spent.

I think!! 1x 303, 1x GMPG, 1x SA80

Could be wrong though as I'm in the Navy LOL! =))

Yes mate so do we, but I'm not old enough to remember a 303! So can't be 100% sure
