Live Bullet... maybe?

Post by multimedia »

Hi,

I have dug up a lead 3 ring bullet but it still has what looks like a brass stopper/seal on the end .... others I have found have all been hollow.

Is it live?

Will it still be a problem given the age of it?

If the answer is yes .... what do I have to do with it? I know the answer to that isn't hit it with a hammer ;)

Thanks.

Hi multimedia

if you can post a photo up, someone will be able to i/d it for you .
a pic from the side and one from the "seal " end would be good.
praps include a 50p as a reference for size.

regards....Ian

Can't help without a picture I'm afraid. You sure the 'brass' stopper isn't clay ?

It did and it isn't in the slightest bit dangerous. Bit too early for me but I think it's a Snyder bullet and the bit in the bottom is clay. Solid lead otherwise and a very common find.

They are most likely bullets for the muzzle loading.577 percusion enfied rifle.
The plug in the rear of the bullet was designed to be driven into the base of the bullet on firing forcing the hollow sides to engage with the rifling.
