I have this old shell case (not a md find!) and wonder what type of artillary gun would have fired it, was it a popular choice of ammo, is it British? etc.
It's 15 inches long, 4 inch diamater and here's a couple of pics.
Thanks for any ideas

"Only once a find is recorded is it truly discovered, and through recording finds with the PAS metal-detecting can make a truly positive contribution to archaeology" British Museum. RINGS returned 2014=19 Not found = 8 I dont know much about military ordnance, but it looks British with the arrow and 1916 date, so ww1 field gun would be my guess.

ACE150 All the information you need is on the headstamp. If you can write out exactly what it says, you will answer your own questions !!! The headstamp will have the calibre, maker, year, and lots of other information on it.
What I can tell you at this stage, (as it is all I can read), is that it is British (as shown by the arrow), made in 1916, was probably for naval use ,(as shown by the 'N'), and you also have a lot number. Directly opposite the year stamp you will find the shell calibre. RRPG www.stephentaylorhistorian.com
