a few people have reported a problem with the 13" Ultimate coil beginning to false suddenly after working fine.
This problem seems to be more prevalent on the Minelab Etrac but this could be purely down to the fact that there are more Etracs fitted with this coil than any other make. This is further confused by the fact that it seems, at present at least, that it's only newer Etracs, those made by Codan in Malaysia.
The problem and fix seems counter intuitive due to it's location and it's effect.
You will need a roll of PTFE tape and you need to cut a piece aprox 3cm long, now cut the width in half and wrap this around the socket of the Etrac, as close to the body of the machine as you can so that you now have the top third of the screw thread covered in tape. Now screw on your coil plug and your done.
It seems on the surface at least a strange area to cause this problem as it has very little movement, enclosed as it is by the upper shaft and being at the short end of the arc of swing but the fix works.
If you have a similar problem on other machines then it 's worth trying this but please let me know the make if you can

It would be easy for me to point the finger at the socket of the newer Etracs as the culprit but I've not heard of a similar problem with SEF coils so at the moment it's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other
