Odd little gold coloured find

Post by evee2000 »

Spent a very pleasant 3 hours on Seaton beach today. Very low tide and loads of rocks to rummage around. Found a George V ha'penny, 3 fishing weights and this odd little gold coloured thing. Detector give a deep grunty signal (as it does for gold), and out popped this odd shaped thing. No idea if its brass or gold or something else. How can I tell (without buying acid). Chucked it in some white vinegar and its stayed the same colour. Its also got some weight to it.

Non magnetic, but very hard, so I'm guessing its brass :(

::g I practice what I believe is a foolproof method for identifying brass....by smell. The smell should be unpleasantly pungent and will be more pronounced if it's given a vigorous rub with a soft cloth......give it a go. No need for test kits. Let me know
if it works for you. Cheers Regards sweepstick47 ::g

A good way of testing gold for women is to rub some foundation on your arm, then rub gold on it...it will leave a black mark, try it with a gold ring ....other metal wont....i saw this somewhere last year,i havnt tried it....run out of foundation ::g ::g if it works let me know and i'll pop to boots lol ::g ::g
