Bullet ID if poss please

Post by Grifftron »

Hi all

Just wondering if I could get an ID on what calibre the bullet I found today is please.

When I got back and cleaned my finds the blue top appeared so I know it's incendiary and my mate who is a firearms cop is popping round tomorrow to take it off me.

It is indeed a .50 calibre bullet, the blue tip showing it to be an incendiary round. Under section 5(1a)(g) of the firearms act, this bullet is illegal to possess. Yep.......just the bullet itself is illegal, even without the cartridge. It also contains a compound which, if ignited, burns at such a high temperature it will burn through steel and even concrete. You need to hand it in to the police, carefully.

Oh, and the local officer at the police station will probably stare at you blankly when you hand it in. Not too many officers are familiar with the sub sections of the firearms act..........but trust me. It is illegal to possess, and quite dangerous if mishandled.

Rrpg

That would be fired from the 50 cal sniper rifles like the Barrett ?

I also found a 357 mag cartridge, amazing what they are both doing in a field 15 miles from the nearest town .

Not this type of 50 Griff. It is almost certainly from a WW2 USAAF aircraft, with a slim chance it's from a ground weapon. Were you anywhere near any old airbases?

That appears to have part of the cartridge still around the bottom of it, so was never fired either...

They flew all sorts of stuff out of Lyneham during the war. Hope you weren't inside the perimeter or you'll get shot! :-O
