Anti-aircraft shell cone?

Post by bleepybloopy »

Hi all,
I found this yeasterday in a field where I have had lots of pieces of anti-aircraft shells, some with ranging numbers on as per my previous post in this forum. However, nothing as large or complete as this. The follwing numbers are legible but might not be exact as I was a bit worried about scrubbing it too hard:

No.199IVRL0139 and then RL3/40 1125

Any help on identification welcome, I am in Hampshire halfway between Southampton and Portsmouth, the object was found 8" down with my AT Pro in standard mode, iron discrim set at 35, gave a good solid 65ish signal I think.

Thanks

Thanks for that, is it safe? Anything you would suggest to clean it up?

Cheers

Hi BB,
Perfectly safe, I cleaned mine with a low velocity sand blast machine and restored some to what they would have looked like but you can start by soaking it in warm water and then use a stiff brush that should remove nearly all the crud....here is a pic of the ones I restored....HH...Johnnn
