Portable display cases

Post by RRPG »

Hi all

A very good friend of mine works in a precision tool suppliers. Once in a while they get tools returned that have been mistreated and, as a result, are classed as a chargeable repair to the purchaser. Nine times out of ten the purchaser declines to have them repaired and the tool, and the case, gets binned. My friend saves the cases for me. Lovely metal tool cases that are not much use for anything really, unless, like me, you display your wares at big military shows.

I have done these to save on time setting up, and because I think they display the relics really well.

All I've used is double sided tape and the foam from within the case, chopped up to suit my needs. The bigger case had to have the foam replaced as it had the shape of the tool in it. Otherwise, these have cost me nothing.

Each case has a description of the contents on the lid, and each relic is then also labelled. All I need do is open the cases out and my display is all set up!! Admittedly these cases only hold a tiny proportion of what I normally display, but anything to help save set up time is a boon.

Hope you like what I've done.

First one shows toiletry type things.

Also did one for a selection of cartridge and complete, (inert, drilled), rounds.

And one for cutlery.

This case is bigger than the previous three, and I had to replace the foam. Still....worked out quite nicely I think :)

I just notice in image 4 that some of the rounds have holes in the sides, have you disarmed these or are these dummy rounds?

They are spent cartridges, joined with bullets that were found separately. I have glued the bullets back in and drilled the holes to make them visually inert. I prefer this method, (the other way is to place a ballbearing in the cartridge before putting the bullet in place......they then rattle when shaken), as there is no mistaking the fact they're inert.

Thanks MMM. As I said above, only a tiny part of the stuff I display, which in turn is only a small part of my entire collection.......but they do save me a lot of set up time :)
