From what I have read a lot of us UK Deus users don't use notch or many of the other settings as lots of us don't entirely understand the machine 100% so just opt for standard programs or say like Garys Hot which is very good but I would like to know machine better than just recommended programs...
So back to Notch - People say about missing good targets if using notch but this isnt necessarily true, if you notch between 1-12 this gives a few numbers of notch blurring to so 15, anything under 15 is generally iron so this shouldn't be a problem plus the benefit you are using the Deus in all metal only blocking out the iron noise should let some more of the iffy signals become sweeter and more likely to dig..
The advantage I think of notch is that the iron sound is filtered out
after the signal has been received so not affecting depth, whereas just 1 on the discrimination will affect depth as the Deus discriminates this out in the ground plus you will still hear lots of iron..
The best of both worlds is to use no notch and no disc so completely all metal but on most farmland your ears will be tortured by a wall of sound..
So now I'm just running a few programs next to each other to understand notch v's disc better, both programs the same but one having disc set at 5.0 - notch 00 and the other disc 0.0 - notch 1-12, get a deep or iffy target and you can easily flick between the 2 to compare, I might even add a notch to the high end for the big iron say 95-99 but it's generally quite obvious what this is when you hit it..
Maybe more of us should try notch and lose the discrimination just to see what effect it has
