the bullets are .303s they should have a date on the head stamp
they were used by farmers and military
they are more likely to be fired from a rifle

They look military 303 size 2 me Jimbo and could possibly be fired from a hunting rifle but more likely an old Enfield, I have a piece of land with many of those and could go there now and find 40 plus I usually avoid the patch where they are cos they are very annoying and make a nice tone like a copper penny would.........I also found a similar bullet head too from one of these buried at 10" in same whole as an old tap =))

The cartidges are old and have a rim on them. So therefore WW2 or pre WW2. You must be close to a Forces range or near to the Coast where they practiced firing the odd round.
