The Police won't be very impressed. A live blank is safe to own and a long soak in WD40 will render the propellent inactive so you can keep it if you so wish.

Would it be okay to try and knock out the contents of the round with a hammer first? that way the WD40 would be able to do a better job? on the otherhand maybe he should just do the right thing and call the bomb squad ... saves blowing up his family me thinks! -=+:-P -=+:-P -=+:-P

Please note that I have written the above with the utmost restraint ... but quite how the police will react when you walk into the station with the thing is an entirely different matter... you might get locked up for "wanton endangermant" once the station has become operative again.
Just one moments thought for yourself and others is all that is asked.
I called them last week to see what Was the right thing to do .. the switchboard 'told' me to hand it in... I asked if I should contact them if I get another ..the reply was no just take them to front desk ..I hadn't got a chance to take it hence my neighbour organising a pick up ..or a seizure as the police note it ..I was advised the shell still contains explosive and is illegal to possess without the correct licence
I hear what tour saying but I was going on official recommendation from the plod

My point being that you dont take the thing home... wash it ... prod and poke it... clean it in the kitchen sink ... and then ask um!! Any doubt what so ever and you leave it where it was .. provided that it was safe to do so.. If in a public place call the bomb squad immediately and dont move the thing. I am no expert on the matter by any means ... Please dont take any offence but I am just stating what should be commonsense.

I wasn't aware it was live til I went through the dirty shells ..being a blank the tip is cross crimped so I didn't tally what it was.. just looked like a fired shell with the bulit missing ..it was still plastered in dirt when it was collected ..

That is not correct at all. .303 blanks are perfectly legal to own live. The 'explosive', as they like to call it, again, IS legal to own in a blank cartridge.
Black powder is illegal and needs an explosives licence, but it would have to be a very old .303 to have BP in it. Even if a .303 blank does indeed have BP in it, it would still be legal to own regardless. x;

So you popped a potentially live shell/round/bomb/war head, call it what you want, into your finds pouch ... tramped around the field... got home popped it into the sink, bashed it around abit, called the police and then asked the experts in here whether it was live or not ...
Is that what happened????

please dont bother responding to my question ... as I dont want you to embarrass yourself!!

PPS ... I sometimes wonder whether I am living in a parallel universe where cabbages can wipe out the world and you eat nuclear war heads for breakfast with a double serving of cheese sauce!!!

You've got loads of friendly advice off loads of friendly people as far as I see; Yet you're going to let one 'tiff' with Oldartifact drive you from the forum?

Have another think and make your decision tomorrow mate ::g

I'm outside Old Trafford and there's a guy burning small effigies of Rooney and selling them to fans. Oh, hang on. It's a baked potato stand.

Right u are harry .. lots of great advice received ..
Didn't mean to shun anyone or be disrespectful of the advice and conversations had here ..just a little bewildered to how I did wrong in oldartifacts eyes .. i made a boo boo by bringing home a live shell and carrying it in my pouch ..but I'm sure I'm not the first .. ..
Again I'm not here to offend or upset members new or old ..apologies for the hijack of your thread smudge g.

Thanx for the advice harry ::g

Sorry Jeff82 ... but I got you confused with the Original poster, that said my comments were meant to be condescending towards the original poster ... the OP puts up a picture of a HUGH round and casually asks if its live or not!! We all have a duty of care towards ourselves and others around us.
Apologies for confusing your post with the original posters story.

Apology Most greatfully accepted oldartifact .. ::g
Glad that the confusion is cleared up .. I generally thought I had greatly offended you and couldn't understand why....as my original response to the OP was of concern regarding the round up for id ..I can see how the confussion happend with cross posts and respect that u were looking out for my safety thinking I was the op..
All good artifact .. and thank you for your response OooO
