Ammo - danger or not please.

A question for our esteemed ordinance experts on here please: A green tip and next to an airfield... is this one for a trip to the local establishment or one for the black bin? Only a basic knowledge of ordinance, so in short, is it likely to leave me one digit short of a hand?

U.S issue.50 BMG, from WW2. There wasn’t a Green colour code with these, looks black to me, which will be Armour Piercing. Not at all dangerous as there’s no explosive, but it is illegal to keep.

I made a sticky thread a month ago on WW2 allied ammo colour codes, with .50 at the bottom of my first post;

Thanks Simon. Definitely green/blue (I'm partially colourblind, but definitely not black). I have found stacks of .50 cal in this field (all spent) - probably from the aircraft returning to Duxford. First one of these.

Up to you mate, I think by the letter of the law you arnt ment to have it .

There are a few old posts about them, I bought a couple when I was a little kid from some crash site diggers, here they are for interest

The photo in the initial post used flash, which doesn't help deduce its colour but it is probably black, AP.

Green tipped ammunition was used by the Americans in WW2, know it was issued late 44 early 45 having found them in situ in Germany.
