There are many like it, but this one is MINE.
My metal detector is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life.
My metal detector without me is useless. Without my metal detector, I am useless....

Hello diverdoug,
see you`ve got some bullets of sorts there...Do you dig many military sites?I `ve got a new permission which was a WW1 prisoner camp, then WW2 artilery station then still military activity `til the 80`s.Just need a bit of advice approaching it incase there`s anything that could go bang!Did put a post up but got no takers.

Thanks

Regarding live ammo. If it has a 'Head' ie; bullet or shell, then there is the possibility of being live but not necessarily as many were steel and called 'BALL' They were usually coloured at the tip to identify their purpose; Tracer - SAP-I-Rep- (semi-armour piercing incendary representitive)- Ball etc. but the likelyhood of this still being present now would be doubtful. The colour if I can remember right, for SAPIRep was a YELLOW and a BLUE line 2-3mm wide each, around the tip end where the sides become parallel. This is for the 20mm shell. The .303 usually had a differing colour in the annular groove, tracer I think was RED whilst ball was PURPLE.
At the cartridge end if there is a centre indent in the annular then it has been fired so would be safe. If there is no indent then it would of course be 'live'

Didn't see your post Clint,
But be careful. You could find almost anything on one of these sites. Don't go crazy with the digging, if you unearth anything you are not sure of then suggest you call the loca plod or post a picture on here for others to ID it for you.

Hope you find something un-explosive and interesting! [:)
In the Zone with the Garrett carrot!
