lead bullet .50+

Post by pete350 »

found this on the beach today, does not appear to be lead in the propellant end :-/ (wood like!)
After digging iron for 2 hours I was pleased to find this unusual projectile, I guess it is very old?

Some of the early ammunition (1800s) was plugged with a blob of clay.

I found it amongst sand dredged from the Thames estruary, do spent rounds usually have clay in them or was it lost at sea without being used in anger?
Thanks for your input Lewscope79

I don't know much about these things but I do know some were plugged with wood.

No definitely a bullet, You've got to remember that this was the time when experimental rounds were common
