Is this a nose cone?

Post by metalmicky »

Hi, been on our club dig, and found this big lump. I may be totally wrong, but it looks similar to a nose cone. It has thrown me, as its not to a point. It looks like alley, but its fairly heavy. It weighs 400g. Is it safe and is it military. Any help please.

Give it a good clean. It should have plenty of markings on it, but yes, it's an artillery shell nose fuze.

Very nice :)

No. 209 nose fuze, used in the 4.5 inch AA shell. The CY 11/39 is the maker and date of manufacture, November 1939. You have also got the war dept arrow and batch numbers, along with the due type. A nice find :) If you aren't interested in it please don't scrap it. It would be more than welcome in my War Room :)

Thanks for that RRPG. I give all my military finds to a very good friend. He is totally mad on it. He goes to reenactments, and does a lot of charity work for help for heroes :)
